Submissions open July 5, 2021 for A WOMAN BUILT BY MAN
What we’re looking for: Women built by men.
2k-5k word short stories written by women and femme-identifying individuals that explore the ways in which women are shaped by the men around them. There is no restriction on sub-genre or subject matter, but the story must incorporate how a feminine figure is shaped by male hands through a horror lens. From supernatural creature features to the farthest reaches of space, down to the darkest depths of the sea, what does a woman built by man look like to you?
Previously unpublished stories only, no reprints. Payment: $.05 USD per word.
What we’re not looking for: Straight up retellings of Frankenstein, exploitation/trauma porn, on the nose interpretations of the title. Stories that exceed 5k will not be considered.
Submit your stories in Word format to firstname.lastname@example.org
Please keep submission documents formatted as simply as possible, and submit in .docx or similarly editable form.
10 submissions will be selected to join authors like Laurel Hightower, Hailey Piper, Gemma Amor and more in this highly exciting feminist horror anthology, for release in 2022.

#1 – Beulah by Christi Nogle (Early 2022)
Beginning in 2022 we’ll accept submissions for 40k+ word manuscripts from authors who’ve never published a novel. Paying $500 signing bonus + $500 advance upon publication, and a 20% (publisher) / 80% (author) royalty share.
You’re welcome to submit (1) complete, original, and unpublished 40k+ word manuscript to email@example.com if you have at least (2) paid horror writing credits and have never published a novel. If you have novellas and short story collections in print, you’re still eligible.
We’re looking for horror stories in the vein of what we’ve previously published, not dystopian science fiction nor dark fantasy, and we likely won’t publish YA.
Please include a synopsis of your story, your Twitter, author website, two of your writing credits, and a brief bio with your manuscript. We will read submissions until we sign a contract for a novel. At which point the submissions window will close until after publication of said novel.
We aim to release one novel per year in this series.
